As you enter the Elephant Corridor you will see the majesty of Sigiriya rock fortress which is also regarded as 8th wonder of the world.Sorrounded area of the pothana has a great historical value.Nearby Gale Pansala (A buddhist temple) has history of over 6000 years.With the excavations carried out around the area has discovered human remainings of people who have lived in the area over 6000 years ago.

Breathtaking kandalama hills has a great view to the restaurant of the hotel. Unfenced hotel garden porvides an ideal opportiunity for the bird watchers to observes number of bird species including most of the wetland birds.Specially the bank of the Pothana lake is an ideal location to observe most of the wetland birds.The sunset scene around the Pothana lake would remain in the memory of whoever who is lucky to stay there in the evening.Big flocks of Balck headed ibis in the evening is very picturesque.Some of the birds you could observe in this area are Black Headed Ibis,Black Winged Stilt,Grey Heron,Cattle Egret,Eurasian Thick Knee,Indian pond heron,White Bellied Sea eagle,Brahminy Kite,Common kinghfisher,White breasted waterhen,White throated kingfisher,Orange breasted pigeon,Pompodour green pigeon,spotted dove,Tawny bellied babbler,Yellow billed babbler,White bellied drongo,Ashy prinia,Plain prinia,Common tailor bird,Indian robin,Oriental magpie robin,White browed fantail,Red vented bulbul,White browed bulbul,Coppersmith barbet,Brown headed barbet,Brown shrike etc.Also most of the sri lankan snakes could be observed in the area.

Nearby Mahawawe lake is a location to observe wild elephants in the evening.
